we bought me an iBook.
I REALLY like having a portable computer... (currently typing this from bed. :)

have to find a LiveJournal client I like... doing this one on iJournal.

I think his only major sticking points are the cheap digital camera we've got, and his GPS, dunno if it'll work with the Mac, though it should. These days files usually transfer good, but not quite. Media files are particularly a problem because many codecs aren't found on a Mac. I've given Linux a few shots, but never been able to get things to work since its really not ready for Joe Average who expects things to just run with no tweaking. When motivated I can tweak things, but I like to approach computers from the JA standpoint, and use that as the measure of whether its ready for prime time.

Yeah, I can understand that. though most digital cameras will work with Mac, not sure about the GPS, the hardware might work with Mac, but I know some of the better software that makes it useful, like streets and trips is windows only.
As far as Linux goes, yeah, it's decidedly not for the novice, but it's come a long way towards getting there. especially distros like Fedora Core, which I like to use. It's got a really good program for installing and removing software, and support for most anything you want to put to it. I"ve even had it running dual head before, that was pretty cool. though, for the most part, my linux machine runs headless, and I access it from my windows machine with Hummingbird's program "Exceed". Great remote X client. ONe of the things that is drawing me towards Mac myself, is that I might be able to run my servers, and my desktop machines with the same OS, or possibly even run just one machine. As it is, I have to have at least 2. But before I do the big purchase, I want to try it out , do a lot of different thing s with it and see if I can use it inplace of Windows and Linux for what I do.

PS, Vic might be interested to know, that the little Visor he had at MFF 2000, I now have one just like it. I guess that comes with the territory of having a mate, I gave my iPAQ to him. *laughs*
