I can at least understand most of the rules of baseball. They are fairly straightforward and make sense in context. It is the game that I enjoyed the most when forced to play it in high school PE classes, even though I usually got stuck in the outfield. (Or did I choose to play the outfield because the ball rarely go hit out there?) At my job, we usually get a set of season tickets to the local sports teams, in trade for advertising, and I usually try to go see the Cards at least once a season.

American Football on the other hand… I get the basic rules, but some of the details will forever elude me. Of course, I don't really care to learn the detailed rules, because I find it a fairly boring game. Again, probably influenced by being forced to play it in PE classes, and always getting picked last.

One game that has stuck with me is bowling. Our school had hollow rubber bowling balls, which would lead to some hilarity when someone would always loft it and bounce it down the gym floor. After high school, I would bowl occasionally in college, but the first time I joined a league was when I lived in Kansas City in the 90s. Sure Happy It's Thursday league, which is still going strong. Somehow, I never got around to joining a league while living in Phoenix. Or maybe not so surprising, as I never really felt like I was at home in Phoenix. I've been in a league here in Saint Louis for the past 4 years, and even gotten my husband to join for the past two.

I was never really a fan of "the sports" which likely has to do with the fact that I lack depth perception so I can't play any but always felt if I had to pick one to follow it would be baseball

When I got to go to a giants game last season and sit in my friends' company box it made me realize that I legit dig baseball! Yay! and even that I missed the announcer calling out the play by play like on the radio/tv. It was fun learning something about myself and finding out that I have team spirit!

I wonder if P.E. classes ever made anyone a fan of the sport being forced on the kids. If I ever hear something positive about P.E., it is about the made-up games.

The only game I actually do like and pretty fully understand is baseball, of all things. I could not think of a damn thing to write about regarding baseball for an entry, but at least I understand the game. Bowling...I get some of it, as long as I don't have to keep score.
Football...It's for socializing. I don't get the game, but half time can be fun. LOL

The name of that bowling league is golden.

Yeah, I wasn't much one for sports growing up, but as an adult I seem to have discovered their place in my life. Maybe it was just a matter of finding the right ones. Go figure!

I hate sports and hated PE. In my 2nd high school we would go across the street for a bowling unit. I was terrible.

My elementary school P.E. (7th and 8th grade) had a bowling segment too, with those same hollow, rubbery balls. I learned pretty fast that there was a warp in the floor in one of the 'lanes', and you could use it to your advantage to curve the ball in for a strike.

Bowling was still better than softball, for me!

I think it's wonderful when we find our niche, no matter what they are, and btb, I always enjoyed bowling, even when it didn't enjoy me. (Smile)

I've always enjoyed bowling. I don't have time to join a league, but I go every now and then and bowl a few games.
