Well, got a bit accomplished today.

We are going to "cut the cable" again. Go back to Internet only, using the various network and streaming services for our TV needs. Food Network recently added a viewing app that lets you watch their shows, which was one of the channels I like watching. I especially like Alton Brown's new show, Cutthroat Kitchen. One channel shouldn't mean keeping the expense, so it's going. Also disconnecting the phone we had through them, but I doubt that has been used a handful of times over the past year.

Joined the YMCA in Maryland Heights. We are about halfway between two Ys, but this one is a bit more modern. A couple of other things that pushed me toward this one, is the fact that they have a Tai Chi class, and the fact that I go down to that area pretty much every weekend, to pick up my comics at Newcastle Comics. Now I just need to persuade [livejournal.com profile] javarod to join, since he has mentioned that he wants to get in better shape also. They have a special going right now, through Monday.

Will be going to a bowling league tomorrow night. I think Seph won't be joining me on it, though not positive yet. He has asked some questions of a possible team captain, but we haven't heard back yet.

Cashmere is hair, right? So what is so bad about Cashmere shirts? Angora and Mohair too. Heck the Wikipedia article even says that the original sackcloth was made out of goat hair. (different breed, but… :)

Goats are neat animals. We can get several products from them. Milk, meat, fiber (Cashmere & Mohair) and leather. They are smart and curious, and will eat kudzu. You would think that they would be in wider use wherever kudzu is taking over in the South.

One of the more interesting things about them in my opinion is their pupils. Of course, that article says that cattle, deer, horses and sheep also have horizontal pupils, it is just that goats usually have light colored irises, which lets them be more visible. If I ever get a farm, I want to raise goats, chickens and bees.

Pan is one of the few animalistic gods (other than the Egyptian pantheon, which I don't think has a goat god) that would be somewhat familiar to many christians. Of course, many of them equate him with their Satan, but then, they tend to think that any god other than YHWH/Christ is either nonexistent or evil.
