Oct. 12th, 2006 10:04 pmBeen an interesting week.
Got a call Sunday while I was still at work, from Jos in Houston, basically saying that he was quitting, and did I want to come get him? ??? O.o
Ooookaaayy. Said sure, let me get home, set the kits up and I will get started.
When I got home, I called him, make sure he was sure about this (he was). cleaned the litter box, left plenty of food and headed out. (Pictures taken on my new camera phone can be found on Flickr. Most of them didn't turn out to good...)
So called Tess, let her know I would not be in Monday and Tuesday and headed out at about 5PM Sunday. Thunderstorms north of Tucson, and a very neat looking rainbow off to the left. (bottom of the Flickr page.) Those pic really don't do justice to this. At one point when the sun was on the westeern horizon, I could see almost the entire rainbow, except the top third or so, and most of it was doubled.
Ended up going through a major rainstorm, including hail, a bit before the rainbow.
Sunday I made it to Lordsburg, NM. Where I would have met up with Jos Friday... crashed at a hotel, and headed out monday about 8am, stopped for breakfast at a Cracker Barrel, then headed on east. Stopped occasionally to stretch legs, get gas and Mt. Dew. I finally got to Houston at about 2:30am, then had trouble finding Jos's hotel. (I don't like Houston freeways.)
Slept for a few hours, then we headed back toward Phoenix. MAJOR storm east Texas. Jos drove most of the way back. I drove from about mm 176 in Texas, to 180ish in NM. (somewhere in there is a Border Patrol checkpoint. I stopped behind a semi. when he pulled out, the officer in the 'office' waved me forward. I had the window down, and stopped beside him, expecting him to ask me question. He looked at me and said, "Sir, I waved you through." Oookaaay. I didn't see any indication that he had waved me through, rather than waving me up to him. Makes me feel REAL secure. Jos took over, then I took over again in Tucson.
East Texas, on the way back, instead of following I-10 all the way back, through San Antonio, we cut straight across on a state route, 290. Beautiful country through there. Wish we had had time to stop some...
