May. 12th, 2005 11:28 pmreading an interesting book: Whose Land? Whose Promise?: What Christians are not being told about Israel and the Palestinians by Gary M. Burge.
no, I'm not converting to any of the 3 religions of the Book. (Judaism, Christianity, or Islam) I am quite happy in my neoPagan beliefs, thank you very much. But with all the conflict going on in the area, it doesn't hurt to learn a bit about some of the history. (Sometimes, I sorta hope that "The Rapture" takes place soon, like in the Left Behind books. Get some of the major fighters off the scene, and let the rest of us work on fixing the world back up. (not that I believe it will, but one can always hope...))
The section of the book I'm reading now is talking about YHWH's promise to Abraham regarding the land. That is Israel's justification for their possession of the country. However, the Jewish possession of the land of Canaan is contingent upon adhering to the covenant, which it does not appear that the current regime in Israel is doing. There are certain obligation to those who were living in the land before them.
