Saw The Time Machine last night with [livejournal.com profile] hartree down at the Savoy theaters. I think I give it about 3 stars. Partway through the first time travel sequence, the film stopped and the slides started for a few seconds. Totally threw me out of the mindspace I get into when watching movies, and never really got back into it.
Nice special effects, for the most part, though there were a few points where the cinemephotography was a bit weak. Blurry...
The internal consistancy sorta breaks down, once he gets to the far future, (Eloi & Morlock time) for me...

What exactly do you mean "the film stopped and the slides started for a few seconds"? Was it a problem with the projector, or some kind of cinemaphotography effect? I may be going to see this movie next week with some friends of mine.

I've long been a fan of the original 1960 movie starring Rod Taylor. I have it on DVD now.
