Sandra Day O'Connor retires

Well, as I'm sure most of you know by now, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has announced her retirement, effective when her successor is nominated and confirmed by the Senate.
(and if you haven't, go ahead and search yourself.)

Yes, along with everyone else, I was expecting Rehnquist to be the one to retire. Oh well, should be an interesting couple months.....

I left this as a comment in another journal, and thought it might be good here, to get people thinking about this.

How many of you can name all 9 of the US Supreme Court justices without looking them up?
How many can name your state Supreme Court justices?

Reagan appointed O'Connor, so no overall change there.
7 Republican 2 Democrat.

Hopefully the Shrub will be smart (yeah right) and nominate someone like O'Conner, a moderate conservative.
